The Silent Party – I Guess You Wouldn’t Feel Shocked album review

There’s one global problem for the indie/post-punk/goth scene. And this problem is called “Joy Division”. So the Brazilian indie/post-punk band “The Silent Party” got its affection as well. But in spite of this fact, the start of the album is absolutely great. It is the song “An Instant of Difference”, which sounds very lyrically, sensitive, catchy and greatly arranged. Probably it needs a small effort to get into the song’s atmosphere, but then its attraction calls a listener again and again. The following part of the album (11 songs) I’d rather call a decline after this promising start. Of course, a listener can face some quite fine and interesting tracks, such as “Unsettled Understanding”, “Many Ways”, “She’s So Strange”, or say cheers to Ian Curtis with some thoughts, like “Hello, “Transmission”!” while listening to “Don’t”, for example. But the common conclusion is that the band exactly needs something else, apart from what they already have. It’s absolutely clear that the band do what they like and they have much pleasure in doing it, but I think I can say that this “The Silent Party’s” passion to the music is reflected in a very modest way, and probably they should find some words which they can consider as the ones only they can say. Because even the coldest and deadliest music should live its own life and burn its own fire.
